How to Calculate Paint Quantity?
Calculating paint quantity manually is simple. First, determine the total surface area by multiplying height and width. Then subtract the area of doors and windows. Finally, divide the result by the paint coverage rate (usually 100 sq ft per liter for two coats).
Formula Used
Total Area = (Height × Width) - Non-Paint Area
Litres Needed = (Total Area × Number of Coats) / Coverage per Litre
Litres Needed = (Total Area × Number of Coats) / Coverage per Litre
Paint Coverage Guide
- Emulsion Paint: Covers approx. 130-150 sq ft per liter (1 coat).
- Enamel Paint: Covers approx. 110-130 sq ft per liter.
- Primer: Covers approx. 120-140 sq ft per liter.
- Note: We assume an average coverage of 100 sq ft per liter for a safe estimate (double coat).
Frequently Asked Questions
How many coats of paint are necessary?
For repainting the same color, 1 coat might suffice. For new walls or changing colors (dark to light), 2-3 coats are recommended for a smooth finish.
Should I buy extra paint?
Yes, it's wise to buy 10-15% extra paint for touch-ups and spills. Paint batches can vary slightly in color, so having extra ensures consistency.
